Yeah - he certainly holds a lot of credibility for a crowd like that.

I almost think it's easier to trust that the dots with get connected when you're old though. When you're young you tend to be full of ambition and not worry about the consequences of your actions. You are full of "ahhh - sure, we'll give it a go and see what happens"

I spend a lot of time helping people set up coffee businesses and the young ones are easy to persuade. The older ones (even those in their lates thirties) are in a panic about what might happen if it goes wrong. Too many pension/mortgage worries.

yes, Mac owners are a bit "religious" about it ;). I really liked that Jobs communicated the importance of trusting life, trusting that the "dots" will get connected. It's hard to see that when you're young. It's not that important to know where each step you take will lead, only that you take that step. My son really liked the speech. I haven't heard back from my daughter, but I'll think she'll find it inspiring too. Of course I've already said all the same things to them, but coming from Steve Jobs instead of dad, it might have more impact ;)

If I'm honest some of the whole culture surrounding macs and the "smugness" of their owners irritates me but that probably says more about me than them ;)

It's the sort of speech I wish I'd heard or been sent at University. Whether I would have fully followed the message of course is another thing. I think I would though - I think it's a powerful enough speech to cut through a lot of the idealistic fog you live in at University.

Truly inspiring though.

Thanks John! That was so inspiring I sent it to my daughter at UCSB and son at Cal Poly SLO. I almost even traded in my PC for a MAC... but I love my PC ;)
