I remember an article from the early 90's where Norman says that in America people will appreciate a Ferrari, and the work that goes into earning one. In Australia they'll run their car keys along the paint job when you're not looking. The truth behind this attitude is that people are simply jealous. It's a very big deal with people who suddenly earn a lot more than their friends. You've hit the nail on the head about its relevance to golf too. That quote is hilarious.
